What Is Man and Woman? A Biblical Perspective on God's Design

The Mystery of Man

Both man and woman are created in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:27)—fearfully and wonderfully made to reflect His glory. The ultimate expression of that image is Christ Jesus (Colossians 1:15), the perfect representation of God. As believers, we are called to be conformed to His image, hidden in Him.

Yet God designed man and woman with beautiful, complementary roles that mirror spiritual truths:

  • Man receives seed from God—revelation, vision, purpose—in his spirit, conceives it in his mind, and births it into the natural realm through his words (declarations of faith) and his works (actions). As God spoke creation into being ("Let there be..."), man is called to co-create with God by speaking and acting in faith (Proverbs 18:21; Mark 11:23).

  • Woman is derived from man (Genesis 2:21-23)—described as "a man with a womb." She shares fully in man's humanity (including all human frailties and vulnerabilities), yet is uniquely equipped as a life-giver. She receives seed from the man, conceives in her womb, and brings forth life. This is a profound picture of fruitfulness, nurturing, and multiplication.

The access points are parallel and must be guarded carefully:

  • The way to a man's mind (where conception happens) is through his mouth—what he speaks and confesses.

  • But the way to his mouth is through his ears (what he hears) and eyes (what he sees).

  • Similarly, the way to a woman's womb is influenced by her eyes and ears—what she allows in shapes her heart, desires, and receptivity.

This is why the enemy targets these gates fiercely (Ephesians 6:12). He attacks women often through sexual immorality—tempting through sights and sounds that lead to ungodly conception. He attacks men through iniquities—pride, rebellion, evil thoughts—causing them to conceive and birth destruction instead of God's purposes.

Guard your eyes and ears diligently (Psalm 101:3; Proverbs 4:23). Fill them with God's Word and truth. Let only holy seed be conceived—in your mind, your womb, your life—so that you birth blessings, not curses.

Man and woman together reflect the fullness of God's image: receiving from Him, conceiving His will, and bringing forth life on earth as it is in heaven.
